Anglo-Saxons VS Vikings

Anglo-Saxons VS Vikings
Class 10 have been learning about the Viking invasion of Britain and the impact it had on the Anglo-Saxons who ruled at the time. Here the children took time after learning about the first Viking attack to split into two sides for a debate about how they would feel if they were a Viking or an Anglo-Saxon. There were some harsh words used on both sides and it was great seeing them get into the role with such enthusiasm.

Exploring measures

Exploring measures
This week the class have been getting to grips with calculating the area of shapes. The children were working in teams to first estimate, then measure the length and width of various objects around the school building. The children enjoyed the hands on activity and it was wonderful watching them try to find the most efficient way to complete the task.

Class 8 started a new book last week, Ted Hughes' The Iron Man, which they have been absolutely loving. They have already written some excellent description based on the setting and this week they are amazing me with their ability to spot Ted Hughes' poetic techniques. It's nice to see a real love of reading.

Estimating Perimeter
Today Class 8 have been looking at a satellite image of the KS2 building and trying to estimate the perimeter of it using our classroom as a starting point.
We then split into two groups to measure half of the school each before joining back together to share our results.

We Are Musicians

We Are Musicians
For our computing project, the class have been using GarageBand to create an appropriate soundtrack for a film trailer. They are developing skills in editing sections of music and layering different instruments to match the tone of a film. It has been nice to see the children experimenting with the app and using instruments they have never heard of before.
