The Sounds of the Rainforest

The Sounds of the Rainforest
This afternoon Class 10 concluded their Geography learning challenge by creating the sounds of the rainforest. Over the past few days they have made their own rainsticks using kitchen roll tubes, tin foil and rice before decorating them with rainforest pictures and patterns. They also made small panpipes out of drinking straws. The children were then set the challenge of performing a poem about a storm in the rainforest with sound effects to accompany it. With the addition of some drums from our music cupboard, the children did a great job of using their handmade instruments to create the sounds of the rainforest.
That's it for our current learning challenge but watch out for updates after half term when we will be starting two new topics!

They looked at the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy and used his pieces as inspiration for their own creations. The children had a great time working outdoors and hunting for resources to use in their pieces of art.

Why are rainforests in the news and what can we do to help?

Class 10 pupils have been giving some great speeches to raise awareness of deforestation. Most were really powerful and gave the message clearly. The children used the persuasive devices taught in their English lessons and were really confident whilst presenting their speeches to the rest of the class. They enjoyed the task of writing them and also reading them aloud. Everyone in Class 10 thinks deforestation should stop, they persuaded me to want to stop it immediately.

First Impressions

First Impressions
Some of our Year 5 pupils worked in small groups this afternoon to consider their first impressions of some children shown in photographs. They then discussed how the photographs we post online can lead people to form their first impressions of us. The children came up with some great tips to consider before sharing an image online and thought about how they could communicate these tips to others.
