Diwali Celebrations

Date: 19th Nov 2021 @ 11:44am

This week in Reception the children have been learning all about different light festivals. We have learnt about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, celebrating the victory of good over evil. We learnt all about the story of Rama and Sita and we used our costumes to act it out. We learnt how children in England and across the world celebrate Diwali, including decorating their houses, having special food, wearing special clothes, visiting their temple and finally with colourful fireworks.

We made our own diva lamps out of clay. It was so tricky to mould, shape and our lamps, but we persevered, listening to the suggestions from our teachers, and picking up new skills to help us push and shape the clay using our fingers and thumbs. We even used some clay tools to help us create patterns and designs on our lamps.

We learnt how to do some bangra dancing and listened to music from across the world where Diwali is celebrated. We made our own Rangoli patterns.

Finally we finished off with our own Diwali party. We wrote our own cards and decorated our classroom with fabric and our diva lamps. We danced away and tasted some traditional Indian food including samosas and bahjis. They were delicious. 1F6B245C-D5EB-4DA3-9DD3-ABFFE0AA9810.jpeg
