Taking Action for Climate Justice
At Sutton Oak, we believe that we are called to care for God's creation, care for the planet and to protect all of God’s creatures. Rev. Lynne came to school to tell us about some important things that are happening ovrer the next few weeks.
This November, world leaders are meeting in Glasgow for important climate negotiations. People from the Young Christian Climate Network are walking in relay from St Ives to Glasgow, the venue for the COP26 (United Nations Climate Change conference) and we have decided to support them in their mission.
The children from each class wrote their prayers and hopes for our world and climate change onto paper. Some folded these into an origami boat and others wrote them onto hand print offering a "Prayer wave of Hope". These prayers were presented to Rev Lynne during worship.
Some of the children walked to St Nicholas' Church with Rev Lynne, taking the prayers with them. After their long walk, they enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate before starting their journey back to school.
On Saturday, Mrs Lewis and Rev. Lynne took all our prayers to Liverpool Cathedral where they were joined by lots of other churches, groups and schools for a special service.
These prayers will now be taken to Glasgow where they will be be part of a national display.
